Why Asterix Exists
Asterix exists for one reason: to fix the biggest problem in healthcare.
There are not enough doctors, and the system can no longer keep up. Millions of patients wait weeks for appointments. Millions more are stuck on hospital waitlists. Preventable health conditions are missed and go unnoticed.
Asterix is building the only scalable solution.
We’re creating a new model of care where highly-qualified doctors are augmented by AI - safely, consistently, and measurably. DoctorOS, our emerging clinical platform, is becoming the backbone of modern healthcare delivery.
We combine rigorous clinical leadership, technology designed for real-world care, and AI tooling that makes doctors 10× more productive.
We’re backed by Entrepreneur First, recently closed an oversubscribed funding round, and are live with some of the largest healthcare providers in the UK, generating revenue and expanding fast.
The Role
As our Founding Clinical Product Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of clinical practice and product engineering.
You will translate real clinical workflows, constraints, and risks into high-quality software that doctors trust in live patient care. You’ll build core product surfaces in DoctorOS and help define how clinicians interact with the platform every day.
This is a product-first engineering role with deep clinical ownership. You’ll work closely with doctors, clinical leadership, and founders to ensure what we ship is safe, intuitive, and genuinely useful in real-world care environments.
AI is part of our platform, but your primary responsibility is building clinically sound, production-ready product experiences.
Our Current Tech Stack
Frontend: React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind, Radix UI
Backend: AWS serverless (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3)
Auth & Data: Supabase
Testing: Playwright
What You’ll Own
Clinical product development end-to-end: from clinical insight → design → build → ship → iterate
Frontend architecture: building fast, intuitive, and reliable clinician-facing interfaces
Clinical workflows: encoding real medical decision-making into usable software
Safety & quality: ensuring features behave predictably in high-stakes clinical contexts
Cross-functional translation: acting as a bridge between engineers, clinicians, and product
Early team culture: helping define engineering and clinical product standards from day one
Who You Are
We don’t care about pedigree. We care about judgment, ownership, and real-world impact.
You thrive when:
The product is used in live clinical environments
The stakes are high and mistakes matter
You own outcomes end-to-end
You can move between clinical thinking and engineering execution
You must have:
A medical or clinical background
Trained doctor (MRCGP / MBBS / MD / equivalent),
or
Background in a closely related clinical field (e.g., physician associate, clinical scientist, advanced nurse practitioner)
First-hand experience working in real healthcare settings
Strong experience building software with React and TypeScript (or equivalent modern frontend stack)
The ability to reason about clinical risk, safety, and workflow design
Why your clinical experience matters
Your background in medicine is central to this role. Because you’ve trained and worked in real clinical environments, you can hold conversations that are rare in software engineering. You understand the pressure, trade-offs, interruptions, and cognitive load of delivering care. You’ve lived the pain we’re trying to solve.
This lived experience lets you:
Challenge product decisions with real-world clinical judgment
Spot failure modes that non-clinicians miss
Design workflows that actually fit how medicine is practiced, not how it looks on paper
Earn trust quickly with doctors, clinical leads, and healthcare partners
We’re not looking for someone to “learn healthcare” on the job. We’re looking for someone who already understands the reality of clinical work — and can translate that understanding into software that genuinely improves care.
You’ll be a great fit if you also have:
Experience shipping production software used by clinicians
Full-stack instincts (even if frontend is your strength)
Startup or founding-team experience
Comfort working in regulated or safety-critical environments
Nice to have (not required)
Experience integrating AI or LLM-powered features into products
Exposure to clinical governance, audits, or safety processes
Experience building AI-as-a-medical-device
Experience with healthcare data security standards
Culture — The Asterix Way
Humble
We assume we’re wrong until clinicians or data prove otherwise. We ask questions and learn fast.
High-intensity, founder mentality
No corporate mindset. You push problems to resolution and act like an owner of the mission, product, and codebase.
Joyful energy
We take the work seriously but not ourselves. We celebrate wins, laugh often, and support each other fully.
In-person by design
We work shoulder-to-shoulder in London. It makes us faster, tighter, and better.
